After having a discussion with my professor about my research and problems within the discipline that i might be experiencing, the following has bin concluded. After working many years manually the switch to digital work environment was difficult and frustrating. Like for many adapting to a new interface and using technology to create what you bin doing manually took years getting used to. As it was before it will be the same in the future. Nonetheless i'm interested in finding out a way to create a sort of work toolset that could help designers switch from manual design to digital. Digital design has allot to offer, different variations of brushes as well as menu's in witch countless variations of tweaking can be done. This can cause friction in the adaptation process. Where a designer can get frustrated and lose itself. This is why a toolbox that could perhaps bend the learning curve by assembling assortment of tools and options. This could be a great and valuable asset, if this to be successful, it would benefit many starting out designers such as myself. The most difficult task with in this research is how can it be done with out making it out to be a some sort of a new interface in witch everything is exactly the same, except the lay out and suggested options, tools and brushes are presented. This comes down to understanding the need and issues that designers have and solutions they would like to see for it. This idea stems from my own self is the key to it all. I have go deeper
and research my self and find out what are the pro's and con's of my own work. This means reevaluating my work process manually and digitally. Understand how do i go about sketching a rough environment, what sort of tools do i exactly use, how do i use them and with what kind of results do i end up with.
To begin this sort of research first and foremost a research question is needed. The fallowing list consists of possible questions;
- Can there be created a "toolbox" witch could benefit starting out designers witch switch from manual to digital labor? How such research could be considered as a valuable asset to the industry of conceptual design?
- Is it possible to design a set of work tools that could help novice designers switch from manual labor to digital one? While staying in the sketch phase and not creating complete product. This with out going out and creating an interface witch is solely based on technical aspect.
- How to go about on creating a help tool witch isn't interface based, that is aimed to do designer work digitally but think manually?
- How developing brushes and tools that are the closest to manual design can be helpful to designers that want to or are learning to work digitally?
- How can i create toolset in witch brushes and other tools are mimicked to manual way of working? Focusing on the rough sketching and quick designing instead of finished product?
- Why designing a toolset where a manually working designer can easily adapt to digital way of creating could be seen as a valuable asset to a starting out conceptual artist?
- Can one create an asset of tools(consisting of brushes and alike) witch would improve the adaptation process from manual to digital designing? While staying rough stage environments and not finished product.
Once i settle with a correct question for the research that i will be doing, the next step would be; undergo an self exploration in witch i would analyze exactly what i do and how go about designing rough sketches that are usually seen as process of visualizing ideas for possible conceptual work. This is important to know, because this will allow me to see how i use manual tools. This way i can understand how forms are developed, brush strokes, pens and others are used, How do i think and see forms while i'm using a certain tool to portray it. Process of conducting this sort of research will be talked about in the next update.
Stay tuned.
